Grants for Tax Counseling for the Elderly
The federal government features quite a few grants and cooperative agreements to nonprofit organizations and small businesses via nearly all its offices. One such grant provides funding for nonprofit organizations to offer counseling to senior citizens to aid with completion of their own yearly taxation statements.
The Internal Revenue Service has allocated $5.1 Million for the 2011 Budgetary Year to support the Tax Counseling for the Elderly (T.C.E.) Program
The Internal Revenue Service, which functions inside the Treasury Department is authorized to enter into accords with private or non-governmental nonprofit 501c(3)’s that will offer coaching and practical assistance to volunteers that offer no cost tax counseling and assistance to older persons who are age 60 or older for the submission of their U.S. tax returns.
Grant funding may be used to pay volunteers for incidental expenditures including travel, meals as well as other expenditures borne by them in offering tax counseling help at places convenient for the senior citizens.
Through a competitive process, applicable candidate groups and agencies vie for endorsement to become a T.C.E. sponsor. These groups have to be a nonprofit group skilled in managing volunteer services, with familiarity with the income tax completion process.
Competent businesses may receive grants to provide regional Counseling Programs. Tax return completion help is furnished to senior-citizens throughout the traditional Federal Income tax submitting timeframe, which is from the 1st of January to the 15th of April annually. In addition the guidance activities needed to make certain senior taxpayers receive effective tax assistance of the highest quality may be performed throughout the year.
The Cooperative Agreement between the IRS and the nonprofit group defines the functions that the program sponsor and Internal Revenue Service will execute, the geographical area involved, the maximum amount of financing provided for reimbursement and administrative purposes as well as other data.
Starting with the 2011 T.C.E. Plan, multi-year funding opportunities are available for not for profit organizations which are qualified and satisfy the needed criteria.
Groups submitting an application may choose, should they be interested in being considered for a multi-year Tax Counseling for the Elderly grant. Consideration is restricted to those candidates that satisfy all eligibility standards.
Acceptance from the IRS of an organization for the Tax Counseling for the Elderly program for one year will not necessarily imply that the group will be approved into the T.C.E. program in ensuing years.
A nonprofit group which is approved to provide T.C.E. services is responsible for every aspect of operating a T.C.E. System which includes, but not limited to marketing the program, volunteer recruitment and instruction, Website design and construction and outreach to senior citizens inside their region.
